USA

Hometown :

MJ is from Appleton, WI David is from Greenville, SC

Favorite rivers :

- For tripping, the Middle Fork of the Salmon (Idaho) stands out. - We also love the character of southeastern creeks. For day paddles, when water levels allow, we often head to Wilson’s Creek, the Upper Nantahala, the Tellico, or the Little River. - It’s hard to choose a favourite, but we consider the Chattooga our “home” creek—it offers consistent flows and the chance to paddle nearly year-round.

Favorite boats :

We’ve both fallen in love with the L’Edge SuperLite. David was among the first to run creeks in the original fiberglass Edges designed by Frankie Hubbard in the mid-1980s. MJ paddled an Ocoee until the Spanish Fly arrived in the early 2000s. We both had matching boats for years, and today, the L’Edge has become our lightweight, responsive “retirement” boat.

Most memorable moment on water :

That’s a tough one. For MJ, running State Line Falls on the Watauga stands out as one of the most challenging waterfalls tackled—though that was years ago. These days, the focus has shifted toward multi-day whitewater trips, with many more rivers still to explore. For David, memorable moments include his first descent of Overflow Creek in a Sunburst (early 1980s), as well as exploring the Green Narrows in an open canoe—back when very few people were doing it.
